MARCH 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lexington, VA -- Big Band Jazz arrives in Lexington, Virginia in the next SonoKlect production as the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra returns to town. Composer/arranger Terry Vosbein will lead the KJO in the world premiere of his arrangements from the musical “Sweeney Todd.” This night of exciting big band jazz will take place at 8pm on March 5th, in Washington and Lee University’s Wilson Hall. Admission is free.
In 1979 Stephen Sondheim's groundbreaking “Sweeney Todd” exploded on Broadway. And Vosbein was there, sitting in the audience in awe. Now, over thirty years later, he presents his own version of the memorable score, reimagined for the electrifying sounds of the twenty-piece progressive jazz orchestra.
Returning to SonoKlect for this special presentation is the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra. Formed in 1999 by trumpeter/arranger Vance Thompson, this award-winning band is known for a plethora of creative soloists and highly exhilarating ensemble work. The KJO's previous collaboration with Vosbein resulted in the critically acclaimed compact disc, “Progressive Jazz 2009” (Max Frank Music).
