Great Jazz by Sheroes

Lexington, VA -- The SonoKlect series is happy to announce a Lexington appearance by the group SHEROES. This exciting all-female jazz quintet will offer a free concert at 8pm on Saturday November 6 in Wilson Hall on the Washington and Lee Campus. A reception will follow the performance.

Pianist/composer/educator/author Monika Herzig has released over a dozen CDs under her leadership. She has toured the world, performing at many prestigious jazz clubs and festivals. And she has authored two seminal books on jazz musicians, David Baker and Chick Corea.

Sharing the stage with Herzig are Jamie Baum on flute, Reut Regev on trombone, Jennifer Vincent on bass, and Roda Avila on the drums. Praising her bandmates, the piano playing leader says, “These are all incredibly accomplished musicians, often sacrificing other opportunities, family time and resources to perform in this group. They are my idols in terms of tenacity and accomplishment and should be more widely heard and appreciated."

Jazz great Terri Lyne Carrington said “SHEROES is a brilliant project involving some of my favorite musicians, spearheaded by Monika Herzig. It is soulful and thoughtful.”

In addition to their public performance, SHEROES will work with WLU music students in classes and rehearsals during their mini residency.
